Cultural Arts Update

Cultural Arts:

The PTA presented the Apex Skip Its group on February 3. It was very well received by both students and staff. To see children just like themselves working so hard to accomplish some pretty amazing athletic feats was very inspiring. Mr Hosterman had requested that we consider bringing this group to Baucom, and it was a really nice way to kick off National Heart Health month and as we encourage our students to participate in the Baucom Marathon as well.  Please complete the form to participate with Apex Skip Its group.

We look forward to bringing our last Cultural Arts event on Tuesday March 17.   Jack Golden will perform, and his subject will be environmental responsibility through water conservation and recycling.

Reflections: Spring Music Program, Art Show and Reflections Reception – Cafeteria: 7:00 pm

We finally got some new PTA membership cards in.  They will be brought to the school this week to be distributed.  Many of you already received your cards, however there were a handful that did not.  Thank you for you patience in this manner.

Baucom families are invited to watch a movie in the school back yard. Bring your picnic blankets and chairs to hang out under the stars and watch a movie with your Baucom Buddies on Friday October 24th at 6:00pm.
Dolphin Tale is a 2011 familydrama film starring Nathan Gamble, Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Morgan Freeman. The book and film are inspired by the true story of Winter, a bottlenose dolphin that was rescued in December 2005 off the Florida coast and taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter lost her tail after becoming entangled with a rope attached to a crab trap and was fitted with a prosthetic one. A sequel, Dolphin Tale 2 was released on September 12, 2014.  The movie is FREE to all Baucom families. Concessions will be available for sale with the proceeds going to fifth grade moving-up.
Please be advised that all children MUST be accompanied by an adult and will be required to sign a permission form for the child to watch the movie as it is rated PG for “mild thematic elements”.

Update from the President!

Letter from the PTA President

Dear Baucom Families,

Happy Fall! As you are aware, we are wrapping up our No Hassle Fundraiser this month. We would like to thank everyone that has contributed so far. For those of you who have not yet contributed, but would like to do so, there is a form in this letter. Every donation, no matter how large or small, makes a difference! Of our $14,000 goal we have only raised $5,000.

The PTA has lots of great activities and programs for our children and also some really great events for the entire family. Our fundraisers cover the costs for these events, so it is important for you and your family to consider a contribution to the No Hassle fundraiser. For a complete list of all of the programs and events that we have planned for this year please visit our website,

Personally, I love the No Hassle fundraiser since 100% of the funds raised goes directly to our PTA and it is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. My family chooses participation this fundraiser specifically for those reasons. According to our budget this year, the PTA will spend $37,000 on programs and staff subsidies alone. If we divide that amount by 900 students (an approximation), that is $41.00 per student that we are projected to spend to enhance the education of our student population.

I hope with this additional information, your family will reconsider participation in this fundraiser. The hope of the PTA is to raise enough funds to cover our programs WITHOUT the need to do an additional fundraiser that would include selling items from a catalog, as that is additional work for everyone. I recall the days of taking the catalog to work to pawn off on my co-workers and would love to avoid that, if possible.

Thanks for your consideration and for the generous donations we have received to date. Baucom is a great place of learning and a wonderful school experience for our children. The next scheduled PTA meeting is Monday, October 13th at 6:00pm followed by Literacy Night. Everyone is welcome! I look forward to seeing you there.

Best regards,

Tara Wilder
