· Nominating Committee, Kristin McClure: The proposed slate for 2006-2007 officers is:
– President – Kristin McClure
– 1st Vice President – Jenny Cass
– 2nd Vice President – Laura Peters
– Treasurer – Kim Bunce
– Secretary – Nada Sakher
There were no additional nominations from the floor.
· Book Fairs, Kristin McClure: The Spring Book Fair will be held April 24 to 28 in the Media Center, with an evening event April 25. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the book fair should contact Kristin.
· Fun Festival, Dee Conners for Carol Lalicker: Since very few parents had volunteered to help with the Fun Festival, Ms. Council sent a phone message to all parents asking for volunteers so that the event would not have to be cancelled. Several parents volunteered in response to this message, so the Fun Festival will be held as scheduled. However, there has been a lack of enthusiasm for the event for the past couple of years, so the PTA will consider whether to reschedule it or replace it with a different event when planning for next year.
· School Store, Laurie Williams: Laurie observed that the School Store does not consistently make enough profit to entirely fund 5th Grade Moving Up Day every year, and asked if it could be arranged differently in next year’s budget. This is another matter that will be considered in the 2006-2007 budgeting process.
· Author Visit, Laura Godshall: Deborah Wiles will be at the school on Monday the 20th. Ms. Wiles will have breakfast with the staff and volunteers at 7:30, lunch with several students, and give four presentations throughout the day. Book order forms have already been sent home.
· Moving Up Day, Nada Sakher: There will be a fund raising event for 5th Grade Moving Up Day towards the end of March.
· Fall Fundraiser, Melissa Otto: Melissa is in the process of selecting a vendor for next year’s Fall Fundraiser. Innsbruck and Believe have submitted catalogs. A co-chair is still needed for this committee. Also, anyone with additional input for the fundraiser should contact Melissa.
· Cultural Arts, Mary Sue Rigano: Granddaddy Junebug, a professional storyteller, will perform for Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes Friday the 24th. Parents are welcome to attend.
· Advocacy, Lib McGowan: The WCPSS reassignment plan has been updated. Students reassigned from Baucom to Salem Elementary under the initial plan will now remain at Baucom. However, students from the Brookgreen Forest subdivision are still reassigned to Briarcliff Elementary, and Baucom will gain a few students from Olive Chapel and Penny Road. The Apex Forum Task Force has prepared a presentation concerning high school feeder patterns for the Apex and Cary area that is available online at http://www.assignmentbychoice.org/AFTFPresentation.pdf.
· Hospitality, Sheila Morin: Teacher Appreciation week is coming at the end of April. A flyer describing events and how to participate will be sent home.
· Newsletter, Dee Conners for Nancy Cremmins: Articles for the April newsletter are due March 24.
· Volunteers, Dee Conners for Lisa Bernhardt: The Volunteer of the Month for March is Nancy Cremmins. She will receive a gift certificate and use of the Volunteer of the Month parking space.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
