The PTA's mission is to enhance and support a learning environment for every student through the implementation of programs including:
Fall Fundraiser and Fun Run Celebration
At the start of every school year, the Baucom PTA kicks off our annual Fall Fundraiser. The funds we raise during this time provide nearly all the funding for our annual budget, which includes the programs listed below as well as other needs that arise throughout the year.
The fundraiser ends in a school wide Fun Run where we move our bodies and celebrate the student's fundraising efforts at a school wide Fun Run. During the Fun Run, each student receives a free Baucom T-Shirt in a grade specific color to wear during the event, as well as throughout the year, ensuring all students have at least one item of Baucom Spirit Wear. |
Book Fairs
The PTA sponsors a Book Fair twice a year. Students are given a chance to preview the fair with their class to get excited about books, and are then given several times to purchase books, whether at school or during evening school events. The school sponsors an equity program so that students with financial need are provided a coupon to buy a book.
Staff and Teacher Support (Grants and Innovation Award Funding)
We support every teacher at the beginning of the year by providing financial support for classroom set up and other materials/needs. We also offer a Teacher Innovation Award program which allows teachers to apply for funds to use for creative classroom enhancements such as ukuleles for the music program, robots for k-1 learning and a small greenhouse (picture attached). Other awards from TIA include writing tablets for kindergarteners, document cameras to enhance the learning experience, coding equipment for multiple grades, science fair materials for our ECS II class to participate in the Science Expo, Osmo devices, and literacy materials that enhance the mandated curriculum to make learning more interactive and effective.
We also act as a resource for teachers and staff that may need professional development support outside the schools budget.

Visiting Author
Funds from the PTA budget provide the resources to bring a published author to the school for the annual Visiting Author series. The students prepare for the visiting author by reading his or her books.
While each author's presentation is unique, they focus on themes like inspiration, overcoming challenges when writing, or topics of special interest. In addition, a competition is held prior to the author's arrival to see who can make a diorama that best depicts their favorite book by that author. One winner from each grade gets to have lunch with the author on the day of their visit. |
Cultural Arts Events
Every year the PTA sponsors various cultural arts presentations and professional artists to introduce our students to art, music, dancing and other creative performances.
These programs provide opportunities for academic content integration with the arts as well as the opportunity for students to learn about different cultural experiences from members of that culture. In addition, this provides students a real world chance to practice "soft skills" such as being a respectful audience member. |
Staff and Teacher Appreciation
Volunteers from the PTA find opportunities throughout the year to show our appreciation for the hard work from all the teachers, assistants, support staff and administrators at our school.
This can range from goodie bags for bus drivers to coordinating school wide teacher appreciation activities, as well as providing either potluck or restaurant sponsored luncheons. |
Science Fairs
Every year the PTA organizes a Science Fair and Expo at our school. The Science Fair gives students a chance to explore their favorite scientific concepts or attempt an invention. On the day of the fair, projects remain on display for all students to view and share. The day culminates in the Family Exposition, where students share their knowledge with their families as well as an evaluator from the STEM field for a supportive review of their project. In addition to viewing their students' work, families can participate in fun, hands-on demonstrations and activities put on by scientists and science clubs in our community!
Field Day
Every spring, prior to the end of the year, our PE teacher collaborates with PTA volunteers to host a Field Day that includes games and competitions.
This day is a celebration of physical activity and lets students work together to complete various challenges. It is a great way to get outside and help students build positive experiences with exercise and sportsmanship. This is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities--check the volunteer section in the spring to sign up! |
Family Fun Night
The PTA organizes two Family Fun Nights each year--one in the fall and one in the spring.
Funds from the PTA pay for a free treat for each student, as well as outdoor activities such as a bounce slide or lawn games.Families are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets and get to know the members of their Baucom community. All families are welcome to attend! *The PTA is working towards providing a sensory friendly spaces and activities in the upcoming year. |
School Culture/Community Builders
Throughout the year, the PTA sponsors events to build a cohesive and caring school student body.
Various philanthropic events during the year give students the opportunity to learn about helping others, including the Feed the Kids food drive (which occurs in the Spring) and the Aviators Assisting Aviators program. In addition, we also partner with AAA where we collect donations in order to provide funds to families to help celebrate the holiday season.
Students gain social and emotional intelligence with PTA sponsored "chill out" corners in classrooms along with the opportunity to participate in a Bully Prevention Contest.
Recess playtime is enhanced by maintaining playground equipment buckets for each grade filled with age appropriate (and working!) sports equipment, chalk, and other materials.
The PTA also sponsors special events for specific grades, such as Kindergarten's "flying up to first" ceremony as well as the 5th grade Move Up activities

School Beautification
Annually, the PTA funds various school improvement projects such as new picnic tables, updated technology in the classrooms, playground upgrades, fresh coats of paint in the building, and much more!
As we return to "Baucom 2.0" at Hunter Street, we are working on murals, mosaics, and playground covers to make the new school our home in the 24-25 school year.
